You can cancel an order before a shopper begins shopping or you can reschedule to a different date and time up to seven days from your original delivery date.
What to know before you start
- To cancel for free: Cancel before a shopper has accepted your order. Canceling after a shopper accepted may result in a $15 cancellation fee.
- To reschedule for free: Reschedule before shopping begins. You may be charged for any difference in delivery fees.
- Custom orders: You can't cancel or reschedule meal combos, catering orders, bundled holiday meals, cakes, deli sandwiches, deli items (ex. sliced meat and cheese), or party platters within the 24-48 hour window, depending on the retailer.
Cancel an order
On the app—
- Tap the Account icon (head and shoulders symbol).
- Tap Orders.
- Select the order you want to cancel.
- Tap Help, then select Cancel order from the popup window.
- Select a reason for canceling then tap Save.
On the website—
- Go to Instacart.com and click Your orders.
- Click View order detail on the order.
- Click Help, then select Cancel order from the popup window.
- Select a reason for canceling then Submit.
⚠️ Canceling after a shopper accepted your order may result in a $15 cancellation fee. If shopping has already started, select Get help at the bottom of any Help Center article to contact support.
Reschedule an order
You can reschedule your order up to seven days after the original scheduled delivery date, as long as shopping hasn't started. There isn’t a fee for rescheduling, but there may be an added charge for any difference in delivery fees.
On the app—
- Tap the Account icon (head and shoulders symbol).
- Tap Orders.
- Select the order you want to reschedule.
- Tap Help, then select Reschedule from the popup window.
- Select a new date and time, then tap Reschedule.
On the website—
- Go to Instacart.com and select Your Orders.
- Select View order detail on the order.
- Click Help, then select Reschedule from the popup window.
- Select a new date and time, then click Save changes.
If your order was unexpectedly canceled
Instacart may cancel or reschedule your order due to shopper availability, out-of-stock items, store hours, or severe weather. If this happens, you can:
- Place a new order at a different retailer.
- Order on a different day or time.
- Switch between delivery and pickup by placing a new order. You can't change the order type after checkout.
When you can't cancel or reschedule
The following orders can't be canceled or rescheduled within the retailer's cutoff window, which is typically 24-48 hours before the scheduled time:
- Meal combos
- Catering orders
- Bundled holiday meals
- Cakes
- Deli sandwiches and deli items (ex. sliced meat, cheese)
- Party platters, including:
- Fruit platter
- Meat & Cheese platter
- Chicken Salad Sandwich platter
- Artisan Sandwich platter
- Shrimp Cocktail platter
- Variety Cookie Tray
Check the retailer's cutoff window at the time of placing your order.
When to contact support
Contact us if:
- A shopper has already accepted your order and you need to cancel.
- You're trying to cancel a custom or deli order within the cutoff window.
- Your order was unexpectedly canceled, and you need help placing a replacement.
- You think you were charged an incorrect cancellation fee.
